It is a good idea to test this and upgrade to it if you are running a 2.4 kernel. There have been some problems with virtual memory with some of the 2.4 releases. There was also a nasty bug with symlinks w/ 2.4.11. Get it from: Kernel.org Mirrors. Seems to work fine for us. We did notice that the fix for VMWare 2.0.4 build-1142 still works. We discussed this in this article announcing the 2.4.9 kernel. We used vmware-ws-1142-for-2.4.7.tar.gz located here with 2.4.12, and it works fine. There is an awful lot of stuff going on with the install scripts for VMWare. Do pay attention. We haven’t found anything amiss, but both the init script and the install script walk many places.
