We have always used Bochs in the past as our free emulator of choice. Bochs for OS X is very, very slow. Unreasonably so. There is another emulator project, though, QEMU that works much better. The speed seems five times faster on our particular O/S we boot in the emulator. It is actually usable without having to resort to keyboard shortcuts. Further, the mouse emulation makes more sense, and the integration with the Mac OS X desktop is better. One final goodie. The images are compatible. That is, you can take the same disk image and use it with either emulator. Note that the same image works fairly well on our x86 GNU/Linux box with Bochs (Linux Bochs 🙂 ), so the main issue must be the port to PowerPC.
