Having Fun With Forums and RedirectPermanent

One thing that is quite prevalent in forums is sharing images as postings or as avatars. We saw that our RoboCoop was getting some hits, and wondered what was up. Well, there is a forum that has a daily discussion in Texas here that had put up a link to the image of our chicken coop:



We simply love the flow of images and ideas on the web. There are so many swirls and eddies. We were tempted to have a little fun with this one, though. It made a good introduction to RedirectPermanent. If you use RedirectPermanent in your .htaccess file , you can redirect a request for a particular page or graphic anywhere you like. So, if we put in:

RedirectPermanent /robo.jpg http://www.visitingdc.com/photo/whitehouse/wh_back_350_m.jpg

The posting to the forum now looks like this:



You could also use this, of course, when you move content around on your website. :)
