Installing Gentoo GNU/Linux 2004.3 on SPARC - Part 6 - Initial Logon

After the reboot we get the logon screen:

Well, the messages are annoying. The problem is that getty (agetty) is having trouble with consoles on serial ports that aren't really live. To fix this we need to modify /etc/inittab. Here is what it looks like:

# TERMINALS
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux
c2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty2 linux

c4:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty4 linux
c5:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty5 linux
c6:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty6 linux

We need to comment out the agetty lines:
